Job Description
Kustomer is hiring a Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this role, you’ll work as part of a Pod: a 3–5 person team that picks up a high-priority initiative, ramps quickly, ships end-to-end, and moves on to the next one. You’ll be a capable, adaptable engineer who can walk into any part of the codebase, understand it, and make it better. You’ll ship new capabilities, improve performance, and contribute to the evolution of our architecture using technologies like Node.js, React, Golang, and AWS, collaborating closely with your squad leader and teammates across engineering, product, and design.
AI is a core part of how we build. You’ll use AI tools daily to move faster and raise the bar on what you ship. You’ll also help build AI-powered product capabilities that meaningfully improve the customer experience.
We’re looking for engineers with strong technical judgment, a high bar for craft, and real curiosity about how systems, product, and AI intersect. You take initiative, thrive in ambiguous problem spaces, and own your work end to end, from design through production. Not because someone’s tracking it, but because you genuinely care about what you’re building. If you want your work to directly shape the product and the team around you, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Do:
- Ship full-stack features as part of a Pod, working alongside senior engineers using technologies like Node.js, React, Golang, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, and AWS
- Build and maintain APIs, and learn how to integrate with external services and databases the right way, with an eye toward data integrity and security
- Build front-end interfaces with growing attention to user experience, responsiveness, and accessibility
- Get exposure to AI-powered feature development and start contributing to it as your skills grow
- Work closely with product managers and more senior engineers to understand requirements, and start forming your own opinions on design and UX along the way
- Write unit and integration tests, and build the habit of testing thoroughly from the start of your career
- Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback, as a core part of how you grow
- Share in production support responsibilities on a rotating basis, including on-call and bug triage, so you learn what it really takes to run software in the real world
- Explore new AI tools and full-stack techniques, and bring what you learn back to the team
- Ramp up on unfamiliar parts of the codebase using AI tooling, documentation, and the people around you, and get comfortable asking questions early and often
Your qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience through projects, internships, or bootcamps
- A genuine passion for software craft – this might show up as personal projects, open source contributions, hackathons, or just a track record of building things because you wanted to see if you could
- Solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and how systems actually work under the hood – you don’t need to be an expert yet, but you should be curious and eager to go deeper
- Comfort with both frontend and backend work, or a strong foundation in one with real interest in learning the other
- Some hands-on experience with modern AI developer tools, such as Cursor or Claude Code, or a strong interest in building a real working practice around them
- The instinct to read the README, trace the code, ask sharp questions, and start contributing quickly, even in unfamiliar territory
- A mindset of ownership. You care about what you ship, not just about closing the ticket
- Your application will stand out if you have:
- Personal projects or coursework involving AI or ML-powered features, even at a prototype level
- Any exposure to third-party AI APIs or frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, or vector databases like Pinecone)
- A GitHub profile that shows real curiosity: side projects, contributions to open source, or code you built just because you wanted to learn something
- A demonstrated love of learning new tools and techniques, and a habit of sharing what you find with others
