Job Description

Matson’s Technology Department is looking for a Software Development and Data Analytics Intern to join our Enterprise Applications team in Walnut Creek, CA. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience working with operational and business data in a fast-paced shipping and logistics environment. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and analysts to support reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision making across the organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist in building and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that support business operations and leadership decision-making
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from enterprise data warehouses
  • Support data quality monitoring, validation, and cleansing efforts across key business datasets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Application Development, Business Intelligence, and Operations to gather and translate business requirements into analytics solutions
  • Participate in Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives involving emerging technologies such as AI, GenAI, and cloud-based analytics tools
  • Document findings, create process documentation, and present insights to team leads and stakeholders
  • Assist with ad hoc data analysis requests from business partners across Customer Service, Commercial, and Operations groups

  • Exposure to Python or other scripting languages is a plus
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) is a plus
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
