Job Description

BlackSky is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Intern to join our Platform Test team for a Summer 2026 internship. Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will assist with both manual and automated testing of BlackSky’s web-based applications. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is eager to learn and apply SDET concepts in a real-world, fast-paced environment.

As an intern, you will contribute to test planning, automation framework development, and troubleshooting, while gaining exposure to BlackSky’s innovative satellite geospatial platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in working with cutting-edge technologies, and a passion for solving complex problems. They are curious, self-motivated, and eager to learn new skills in a collaborative environment.

This position is in Herndon, VA and the candidate must be able to work from that office on a hybrid basis. This is a paid summer internship position.

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to perform system-level integration test of BlackSky’s platform applications.
  • Assist in creating and executing test plans, incorporating a combination of manual and automated testing.
  • Work closely with developers to understand software design and functionality purposes.
  • Contribute to the development improvement of automated test frameworks and scripts using Python.
  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues and participate in code reviews.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and team discussions on best practices.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Rising junior, senior or grad student studying Computer Science, Software Development or other relevant degree.
  • Prior experience using Python.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, GCP), and basic knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • Familiarity with software development and testing methods (e.g., agile, CI/CD).
  • Previous internship or project experience in software development or testing.
