Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Distribution Design Engineer I to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing work packages for overhead, underground, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects, utilizing customer GIS and WMS systems such as GE Smallworld and Bentley Expert Designer. The role requires a blend of field and office work, with training provided in customer engineering and construction standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, primarily associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.
  • Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and return to the office to complete engineering design work.
  • Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards are met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation strategies using engineering principles and design.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, or civil).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • 0-1 years of experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
