Job Description
Serco is seeking to fill a fast-paced, growing, and dynamic role of an entry level software developer to support our Satellite Ground System organization in Orlando, FL.
Serco is seeking a junior software developer to join its Wideband SATCOM Trend Analysis & Anomaly Resolution Subsystem (WSTARS) program. WSTARS is one of several subsystems required to support the Wideband Global SATCOM constellation of satellites which provide communication for all US Armed Forces and its allies. WSTARS is the system that serves as an interface to all other Wideband subsystems, in addition to providing data pass through for other subsystems, storage via common data warehouse resource allocation, Data dissemination, and dashboard tooling.
As a Software Engineer, you will:
- Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle.
- Write well designed, testable, and efficient code.
- Conduct software analysis, programming, testing, debugging activities and maintenance.
- Develop technical designs for application development and recommend changes to improve established application processes.
- Architect and build RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot. General knowledge of Relational Databases (eg Postgres, Oracle) and SQL language. Frontend experience using frameworks like react.
- Participate fully in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues quickly and effectively with a focus on code quality and system uptime.
- Support continuous delivery pipelines.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or another STEM field
- The ability to obtain a Secret DoD Clearance
- Security+ certification or the ability to obtain within 120 days of employment
- Experience in one of the following:
- Python
- C++/C#
- Java in Linux and/or Windows environment
- PowerShell
- The ability to travel as needed.
Additional desired experience:
- Engineering background in Software including deriving hardware and software requirements and designing, developing and testing systems.
- Satellite Communications engineering experience.
- Experience with all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Demonstrated aptitude for analytical problem decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, solution implementation, metric development, and metric evaluation.
- Experience working in an Agile framework.
- Experience deploying and managing applications in containerized, orchestration-heavy environments (Docker, Kubernetes) on RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) systems.
- Proficiency in scripting languages, specifically Python, to automate tasks and build tools.
- Added specific duties for eliciting, analyzing, and translating business needs into technical specifications.
- Incorporated expectations for Test-Driven Development, API automation frameworks (like JUnit and Selenium), and CI/CD integration.
