Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer, Robotics with a passion for hardware-adjacent programming to join our engineering team. In this role, you will help design, program, and commission the software that brings our automated machinery to life.
You will work closely with senior engineers to implement controls solutions for several cutting-edge products Wonder is creating. This includes programming PLCs, commissioning motion and I/O systems, and supporting these systems through their entire life cycle. This is a highly hands-on role where you will see your code translate directly into machine progress, physical movement, and product success.
The Impact You Will Make
- Write, test, and debug control software for automated systems using PLCs (Structured Text, C++) and PC-based control systems (Python, C/C++).
- Assist in integrating sensors and actuators (both pneumatic and motion-controlled) into fully functioning robotic systems.
- Participate in the testing and debugging of physical machinery in our lab space to ensure correct, safe, and reliable machine operation.
- Maintain clear documentation of machine specifications and operating guides. Assist the Electrical Controls team with maintaining and updating control system schematics.
What You Bring to the Table
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or Computer Science (or a related technical field).
- Experience: 1-3 years experience in a software engineer role or related field.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills and the patience required to debug complex, real-time interactions between software and physical hardware.
- Programming Exposure: Familiarity with at least one automation language (IEC 61131-3 standards like Structured Text) OR a standard programming language used in hardware interfacing (C, C++, or Python).
- Hardware Curiosity: A strong interest in working directly with physical hardware, motors, and robotics. You are eager to roll up your sleeves, grab a multimeter, and work right next to an active machine.
Additional Skills
- Academic Projects, extracurriculars (like FIRST Robotics), or internships involving robotics, industrial automation, or customer mechatronic systems.
- Prior exposure to B&R Industrial Automation software (Automation Studio) and hardware.
